PE and Sport Grant

The government is spending £450 million on improving PE and sport in schools with primary aged pupils. The funding is being given over the academic years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 and has now been extended to 2016/17.

Schools are free to decide how to spend the grant, but they must be able to show that their spending has led to a ‘direct and sustained’ improvement in sporting provision.

Schools should spend their sports funding in the financial year in which it is allocated.

During a school inspection Ofsted will consider how effectively the school uses the school PE and Sport Grant to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

Some of our pupils access PE through the Physical Curriculum and our curriculum reflects our commitment to using physical activities to enhance physical and emotional development. This includes Sensory integration and circuits, Jabadeo Dance & Drama, Swimming Tac Pac, and MOVE.

Brooklands buy into the Special Schools Sports Partnership which brings special schools together for dance, swimming, competitions and also generates additional funding for these activities.
